23rd July, Laver 2 Bridges section
Lili came along to have a look at the upper Laver. There were no cows to scare her this time though.
I walked down to the Sluice Pool to commence angling. Here I saw no fish rising, and provoked little interest in my home tied PT nymphs. Up towards the upper section of this pool, I eventually got a trout, and therefore was pleased that my tying was convincing enough for this trout!
Since my last trip here, it has been an important issue to treat my leader with water repelling grease to make it float well. In my old fly bag, I have several old tins of "Mucilin". These I now have a very good use for, and I promoted one of them to my waistcoat pocket for essential items. The Mucilin works very well indeed.
I fished upto the bridge where the car was parked, and by this time I had caught 17 fish (16 on PT and 1 on RN). Since it was still quite early, I decided to go upstream a little more and get some more angling done.
I got another 4 fish, 2 each to PT and RN, a total of 21 fish for the day!
I have only ever caught more than this on the Laver once before, and that was in the Mayfly of 1998, so I'm really pleased with how effective this method is!
