How to build yourself a good rod
A year and a half ago I built myself a 4 piece 10 weight tarpon / heavy duty flyrod. Nearly a year ago, I broke it twice in 2 place! Terrible luck, I was so bad tempered that I stomped the ground, kicked the jeep’s tires.
The company that sold me the excellent blank (Exeter Angling Centre), honoured their warranty on the broken blank, despite me being 3 weeks over the 12 months in sending back the blank. They told me that they stopped making my blank in brown, only black, and that the unbroken half of my rod would look stupid with a black top half. They said that they would just supply me with a whole new blank: great guys!
I asked if I could have the 2nd section back, plus a reel seat and a handle that would fit it, because I had a good idea of how to have a nine foot 4 piece and a 7 foot 3 piece rod in a total of 5 sections.
After a bit of work deciding ring spacings, and whipping and varnishing, I have now completed an excellent rod: I’m really chuffed. Take a look at the pikkies below.
Take a nice reel seat like this Struble

The varnishing can be a pain, but with a little patience…

2 rods in 5 pieces. See the old brown blank and the new black one.
I can’t wait to test them out!!!!
